Facebook buys startup(e-mail prioritizer MailRank)

With an aim to expand its services on smartphones, social networking giant Facebook has acquired MailRank, a year-old startup firm focused on prioritizing e-mail, for an undisclosed amount. MailRank prioritizes e-mail so that the user can focus on the content that really matters. The company is considered as solution to the problem of e-mail overload. The two co-founders of MailRank, Bryan O'Sullivan and Bethanye McKinney Blount, will join Facebook as per the deal. Facebook said on Tuesday it is investigating reports that some members of the social network were receiving graphic images in their news feeds. "Protecting the people who use Facebook from spam and malicious content is a top priority for us and we are always working to improve our systems to isolate and remove material that violates our terms," Facebook said in a statement. "We have recently experienced an increase in reports and we are investigating and addressing the issue," Facebook said. The social-networking company urged its 800 million-plus users on Wednesday to remain vigilant to keep their accounts from being hijacked.
