WHERE TO STUDY
We study at home and at school. At school, the very structure of the building and the layout of the classroom are planned to facilitate study and concentration. The whole purpose of the institution is to promote studying and so everything is planned for that specific purpose.
Things are very different at home, home is shared by people of many different age groups.People do a variety of things at home-cook,eat,bath,sleep etc..........Studying is only one  you have to do.
Therefore it is important that you find a place for yourself where you can study with the same amount of concentration as you do in school.
HOW TO PICK A SPOT TO STUDY
  1. You need a place with a quiet and peaceful environment.
  2. It should be comfortable, with a chair that support your back well a desk at right height. However ,do not pick a place that is too comfortable, and consequently start feeling lazy or sleepy.
NOTE:
A bed is associated with sleeping. it is not possible to remain alert or concentrate fully on your bed.Similarly, the sofa in the living room might be where you watch TV or chat with friends and family. It too is not appropriate for concentration.
Many student, who do not have a study table , use the dining table.Even though  it is closet to studying desk ,it is associated with relaxed activities.
The correct place to study is a study table or desk.

 your study table should
  • Be of appropriate size and height
  • Have enough space for books and stationery
  • Be in position where there is natural ventilation and proper light
  • Be in a quiet spot, where there is least disturbance from the kitchen, the living room or the outside
  • Never be used for any other purpose, such as eating or light reading
NOTE
If you have a proper study area, with a comfortable desk and chair, you will soon find it easier to concentrate when you are in that area.
HOW TO KEEP  YOUR DESK AN APPEALING PLACE TO BE:
  • Always keep your desk clean
  • When you finish one session of studying, tidy away the books and stationery
  • Have your favorite pen stand or note pad
  • The desk should look warm and inviting
  • Keep all the study aids you need--such as a dictionary or atlas--within reach
  • Have a soft or cork board on the wall by your desk so that you can pin up your study schedule or any notes to yourself or inspirtiional quotes that you want to retain

WHEN TO STUDY
Why do you go to school every day?Why do you not go just once a week or a month? This so because no one can learn things overnight. You might be able to memorise bits of information in a day,but to truly understand and learn something takes time.

But what one learns fast one also forgets fast. For good  quality learning to take place, that you will remember for long periods, there has to be regular training and reinforcement.
A student who scores well regularly will have the following habits:
  • He/she always finishes homework on time
  • He/she spends some time studying everyday
  • He/she tries to revise a little of what ever is done in school regularly
A student who does not score well would not have such regular study habits. If you study regularly, then you are familiar with all that is taught in school. You would be dealing with all only a small amount of material everyday. You will have read through the text books and your notes, and clarifies concepts in your mind.If there was anything you did not understand, you would  have time to ask a teacher or a parent and figure out your areas of doubt. Before exam or test , you would need to glance through your books to refresh your memory, but essential knowledge or comprehension would already be there.

If you study only before a test or exam, then you are not familiar with what has been taught in class. The amount you have to read through is much greater, and you have to try to understand what is written. There is no time to clear any doubts or queries .As a result your understanding and learning would not be as thorough as someone who has been working regularly.

HOW TO USE YOUR TIME EFFECTIVELY:
Of course when you come back from school you don't want to spend hours and hours revising what you have just gone through in school. There are so many friends to play with, books to read, songs to listen to and other wonderful things to do. you also would have some chores at home which your parents have given you responsibility for-such as watering plants or taking the dog for walk.
Well, studying regularly does not mean that you have to give up all of these up.What you have to do is to plan your schedule well so that you have time for study and fun.
It is good to have a fixed time allotted for studying every day.As we have said before, human beings are creatures of habit. If you repeat a pattern of behavior often enough, then it becomes an integral part of you. In order to study effectively, it is important to develop this habit---to sit down in a fixed place at a fixed time of the day.If you do this regularly and faithfully for two weeks, you will find it has become a habit.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT TIME
Choosing when this time is going to be is a very important component of your study programme.
In order to use your time effectively, you have to take into account when you are most active and energetic, and will be able to concentrate best. There is no point in setting aside two hours to study every night if you find you are fighting sleep all the time.
HOW TO MAKE A TIME TABLE:
  1. List your normal routine for the day.See where are the timeslots when you can study.
  2. Decide which is the best time for you to study and allot that time for study every day.
  3. Announce your timetable to your family and friends.
REMEMBER: THERE IS NO SHORT CUT TO SUCCESS.

LEARN TO PRIORITISE:
Another important factor to keep in mind when you are making a timetable is all the things you have to do.Make a list of all the things you have to do.
But the  problem is that you do not have time to do all the things. You have to pick and choose what you can do in the time available. This is when you to prioritise
Pin your sheet of paper to a cork board. As you complete each task, strike it off the list. This will give you the sense of achievement.
SOME DO'S AND DON'TS
  1. Pick a time when you are not tired and are able to concentrate.Though one can finish a homework assignment when tired,it is useless to try to learn something new when tired.
  2. Do not plan to study when all your friends are playing or when your favorite TV programme is on.Even if you sit with your books, your mind will not be on what is in front of you.
  3. Do not pick a time immediately before or after a meal.neither an empty stomach nor a full one are conductive to concentration. You must make sure you are otherwise physically comfortable too.
  4. Plan a separate slot for home work and for study. If you have no home work oneday, you can also study in the homework time slot, are you can treat yourself to some time off.But it is important that you always study in the time alloted for studying.
  5. Be realistic:Do not put aside an hour for homework if you know that you have to spend an hour and a half doing it everyday.Do not put aside two hours to study if you know that your concentration span is an hour at most.
  6. Be flexible:Plan a time table .but also be willing to change it and add more study time if you find that the time you have alloted is not enough. If you find that the time you have chosen to study is not a very effective time, then change it to a more appropriate time.
WHAT TO DO IN ONE DAY
Now you have your desk and chair in a quiet corner of the house, and you have decided that you are going to sit there and study between 5pm and 6 pm every day. Now what?
